Scheduled sync
I've added an automatic scheduled sync feature. If you login to the sync web interface, you'll now see an extra option to enabled scheduled syncing. This happens every 6 hours.
You'll also notice that I've added a rate limiter - you can't sync more than once every hour (this applies to both manual and automatic syncs). Once this has been running smoothly for a couple of days I'll announce it as a beta release in a new thread. Please let me know how you go with it. |

Many thanks for this. It is exactly what one of my customers needs. I cannot afford to make him a guinea pig for an alpha release, but will risk it once you feel confident enough to call it a beta.

Is it possible to use HTTPS for the login form (and backend transactions with Google and Fastmail) and use OAuth for the Google Account access?
Also - is there a way to access Fastmail using an OAuth style so my account username and password is not stored on the server (encrypted or unencrypted) - I assume at some point it needs to be unencrypted in order to authenticate to the server? Still an excellent service - just worried about my account details. |

The passwords are stored on the server using AES encryption - they are only decrypted in-memory. The decryption key is compiled into the web app - it's not in a text file anywhere on the server. So it would take a fairly substantial hack to get at them.
FM does indeed require a password to access the site - there's no OAUTH or similar. I don't plan to buy an SSL cert, but I could use a self-signed one easily enough. I'll look into doing that. |

You can get a free certificate at http://www.startssl.com, Valid for a year and accepted by most browsers.
However, you will have to renew it every year |

Not really related to the sync service, but I noticed that the delete button in the email field of the address book doesn't work. I had duplicate email entries for a contact, and have been unable to remove it.
Clicking the delete button with the field filled gives me an "The email address is invalid. Email addresses are of the form "username@hostname.domain"" error, while removing the entry first then hitting the delete key returns "The email address is blank. Use the delete button if you wish to remove an email address". |

mccoyand: I don't know if it works with shared address books, since I don't know how the FM API deals with them. Perhaps you can give it a go?
sflorack: I doubt your bug report will get noticed by FM staff here. Perhaps email them, or post to the relevant forum, if you haven't already done so? |

Are you aware your sync feaure (which I use regularly with FF) rather ironiclly does not work with Opera (v10.63 b3516 in my case).
After logging in, clicking Sync simply returns you to the login screen. Just thought you should know. |

Hello Jeremy.
I just tried connecting using my full FM address (xxxx@fastmail.fm) and an alternate password (to not give away my main one) and I receive the following error message: Quote:
Thanks Ludo |

Works like a charm with Android 2.1.
What does the option "Remove all sync state: Clear" do? Thanks a lot and keep up the good work! |

Coume: Alternate passwords are not supported by FastMail's API, so we can't do anything about that.
Carra: "Remove all sync state" clears from the system the list of which items are currently in each addressbook. If you click this, then sync again, you'll get lots of dupes! However, if you clear one of your addressbooks and want to start syncing from scratch (to overcome some problem), you can use this. |
