alistair234: Are you logging in using an IMAP client or via the web interface?

It's not happening to me Alistair and I am pretty sure this is not a generic problem.

As you are not a new Fastmail user, I cannot see that it would be anything dead simple that you are doing wrong, and would recommend that you contact support.

Possible POPping?

While things were down, did you experiment with different email clients to try to read your mail? Is it possible that one of these was set to retrieve mail by POP?

Aliastair234, can you PM me your username so I can have a look at your account? Sounds like odd behaviour.

Bron.

edit: and while I doubt it's a problem at our end, we have been making a lot of changes, and better safe than sorry!

Yesterday I lost a "page" from my Inbox.

Frustrated I logged on to my back-up account to resolve things - when I logged back on to FastMail the missing e-mails had miraculously reappeared.

NJSS, can you PM me your username? (I'm sure you have before in the past, but I religiously delete and forget such things as soon as I've dealt with the issue!)

Both these issues sounded suspiciously like something statuscache could have caused, but alistair234's one is indeed POP, at least the nginx log shows a POP login every 7 minutes. I have PMed about it.

Reappeared does sound statuscache-esqe. Especially since having another message delivered to the mailbox will cause the statuscache to refresh. That's why I want the username, so I can see what server you're on!

Hi all, think I’ve found the problem of the disappearing E-mail messages. I took your advice and changed my password. I logged out and logged back in again half an hour later. The Log-in Log said I had 4 failed log-in attempts, got me wondering again what it could it be that causing the failed log-ins as the failed log-in had the same IP address as me. Then it hit me what the problem was, a while ago I set-up fastmail with the SpamKiller software I’ve got installed on PC just to test software out as it was a new PC and forgot I had set it up. I’ve since deleted fastmail from my SpamKiller software. It’s an hour later now and I’ve had no messages deleted from Inbox also had no more failed Log-ins. So looks it was my fault afterall. Thanks so much for all your help.

NJSS,

Sorry I didn't get back to you before. You're still on server3 (not the dead partition!) so it's not related to any of the moves I've been doing. That's really odd. Have you seen a repeat of that behaviour?

Did you possibly have "unseen" or anything ticked at the top of the folder, or a search?

Hi Brong

Don't apologise this isn't particularly urgent.

No I didn't have "unseen" or anything ticked at the top of the folder, or a search?

One more funny thing. This morning an e-mail which I had read a couple of days ago appeared "unread" - just one, and before you ask I hadn't marked it unread myself.

I'm moving you to a replicated server, if nothing else it will at least refresh the statuscache!
