Attachments with non-plain-ASCII file names not accessible

Every now and then I get email attachments with diacritics, blanks or additional dots in the file names. In the webmail they show up with size 0k and when I click on them, I get redirected to the folder list.

Is this a known issue? If so, are you planning to fix it?

BTW, some of these mails are forwarded from other email services to my runbox account and in these other email accounts, I can open the attachments without any problems.

Best regards,
gecko

Confirmed. Also an error msg ("file cannot be found") appears at the top of the screen: https://s24.postimg.org/inuw54uet/runbox.jpg

Additionally the file name is messed up. May be that's why it cannot be found?

Could you forward one of those attachments to test@runbox.com so we can have a technician investigate it?

Thanks,

I just tried a couple of things...

When I send a file with the exact same file name that is giving me problems when received from someone else, it works flawlessly.

However, when I look at the mail source, I see that the UTF-8 encoding of the attachment's file name is different in the mail sent through Runbox and the one from a third-party mail account.

Please let me know if the sample forwarded by janusz is sufficient for you to investigate the matter. Otherwise I can provide more info via direct mail.

Best regards,
gecko

Any news on this?

The files in my inbox are still not accessible.

Cheers

We are working on this issue, but it's complex and we're following two different routes in parallel: Fixing the issue in the existing code (which runs pretty deep), and using the mail parser from the new webmail we're building.

We'll post back when we have more to report.

Hi,

I also have the same UTF-8 issue with my name not being properly displayed (you probably remember the back and forth in the runbox support). I'm not looking for the ETA on fixing it in the existing webmail, but will these issues be fixed in the new webmail?

I'm surprised by the UTF-8 issues in Runbox. After all, this has been developed in Norway, where several non-ASCII characters exist in the official languages.

I am still seeing this bug in my inbox.

Are you still working on it? Is there an ETA for an update addressing this issue?

gecko
