Making new mail.ru account

Hello,

I have a mail.ru account that I made a long time ago, when they didn't require mobile numbers for registration. Now I'm trying to make a new account and can't get past the registration phase. Instead of texting me a code like Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and Yandex would, they call me and hang up as soon as I answer. I tried messaging mail.ru, but they said they'd "pass on" my SMS suggestion to head office, but this hasn't been acted on.

Can anyone here please help me?

You do NOT need a cellphone number to create a mail.ru account. It is advised...but you can also create account only with another back up email.

In the registration field it states this:

"A phone number is required to recovery access. If you don't have a phone, then enter a backup email address"

BTW I think mail.ru is a very good (free) service. I am using it since 2013 and also their cloud storage (25 gigs).
