Yahoo

Is it possible to retrieve mail via pop3 from yahoo? Don't think it is possible but wanted to run it by the experts on this forum

Yes, Yahoo provides both IMAP and POP3 client access. You need to be sure to log in on the website first and verify the latest security and client access settings. See:

As Bill said, yes. I use POP3 and IMAP4 with Yahoo Mail.

That was why I gave the second Yahoo link. Be sure to read the first link also. Here you go:

POP settings for Yahoo Mail

Incoming Mail (POP) Server
  • Server - pop.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 995
  • Requires SSL - Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
  • Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL - Yes
  • Requires TLS - Yes (if available)
  • Requires authentication - Yes

You can find the settings as follows:
  • Click the gear in the upper right and select Settings.
  • Click Writing email at the left, then make sure you have the desired font and other sending settings. Next click Accounts (see the note at the bottom).
  • Click your default Yahoo account (probably the top item) and make changes to your signature.
  • Click Save at the bottom.
It's a horrible user interface with far too many ads for me to use. It's also one of the most unreliable email systems I have ever used. I just sent several test messages.
  • The first test message arrived in 3 seconds.
  • The second test message was delayed between internal Yahoo servers for 3 minutes. It then took 2 additional seconds for delivery to the recipient.
  • The third test message stuck 16 minutes between internal Yahoo servers, then a few seconds for actual delivery.
  • I sent the fourth test message to a different destination (Gmail) and it was stuck for 18 minutes inside Yahoo.
  • The fifth test message was stuck 30 minutes inside Yahoo.
This happens from time to time. Yahoo is very unreliable and often slow!
