...and as for most awful songs, just about anything by the BeeGees (bless their hearts) or Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" ...also that "I'm Too Sexy" song by Right Said Fred (or whatever the hell they called themselves )

I work as a musician in Corporate & Wedding settings & have learned to seperate myself completely from some of the most dreadful musical pieces ever...
"Electric Slide" "Boogie Oogie Oogie" "Celebration" Crowds can't seem to get enough of 70's Disco schtick... The one song that gets an entire room dancing is "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Bros & that's a great song... |

I remember some years ago hearing a Country version of
"Comfortably Numb" which was fantastic, I have no idea who covered it. |

I've recently heard a rap (or something like that) version of Mas Que Nada! To my mind, this is almost as bad as the Scissor Smurfs' cover of Comfortably Numb — Mas Que Nada is supposed to be Latin jazz, in the new version it just sounds totally wrong...

Yup, that's Sergio Mendez featuring... the Black Eyed Peas!!! Truly dreadful, Robert. Although some of the dance/hiphop songs that are popular these days I can't bear to hear with a straight face. The Black Eyed Peas "My Humps" is one of the worst.
There's a indubitably awful one named "From Paris To Berlin" by an artist called "Infernal" (How apt, it that as in "Din"?). I have to turn the radio off whenever that disgrace to music comes on... and 1 million times worse than that is exactly the same song with a few of the lyrics changed to sound patriotic at the time of the World Cup... what the hell??? |

By the way, no-one does "Mas Que Nada" like Sounds Orchestral.

I'm watching Top of the Pops with the karaoke feature turned on, and a few minutes ago there was a good song (don't know the details) with a repeated lyric about "chasing pavements"!
I presume this must be some kind of subtle metaphor, because it made no sense whatsoever to me. Maybe it's just that I've downed too much Christmas spirit. |

There could be a few songs with that lyric, but none spring to mind other than the most obvious one - which would be Chasing Pavements by Adele Adkins. A truly dire song it is too, as well as being complete nonsense lyrically. Although I did hear on the radio once a cover of it by Amy Winehouse which was a lot better. Maybe it's just Adele's voice I don't like.
And to add to the list of awful songs is the Christmas number one from any recent year. It's always a manufactured soppy ballad which the intro always has singer giving an elongated descending "ooh" over the second and third bar (between 2 and 5 seconds into the song) even though the first words don't start until a good 10 seconds in. What has become of pop music? Oh and happy Christmas! |
