Feature Request Poll Rides Again
Hello People,
As some of you may remember, a long long time ago I ran a poll to determine which features are most wanted. A lot of results were sent in, and overall things were pretty fun. People expressed interest in a second poll, so here we go again. Please use this thread to submit suggestions for feature requests you'd like to see. When doing so, please make sure you explain clearly what it is you want in about one sentence. This first post will be updated from time to time to show the feature requests that will be included. Closing date for suggestions is Sunday (16th of April 2006). If all goes well the poll will start on Monday 17th. Currently Listed Feature Requests (updated 2006-04-15):

Address book Sync
Hi Kander,
I am aware that this one is not the highest priority for many, but I would like to see either an LDAP address book implemented or at least the ability to sync the address book with popular PC apps like Outlook, Thunderbird, Palm etc. |

Group addresses from add/discard screen
It would be very nice if we could specify in which group to file our addresses directly from the add/discard screen. It is really annoying to have to come back to the address book and find the new address amongst the gezzillion unsorted addresses in order to group them.
There could also be an option "New group" in the drop down box listing the available groups. Thanks, you guys are the best Charlot |

Well, you can start with the features we voted and are still not implemented. some of them: - global search - flag messages - edit subject - remove attachments - warn before a "NO SUBJECT" message is sent - some way to make backup of NOTES All of these I WILL USE EVERY DAY if developed/deployed. |

Thumbnails of attached photos in an email. So you can decide per photo if you want to download it or not. This will save time and bandwidth.

Conversation view alá Gmail or Inbox.com.
It groups all replies with their original message in one conversation. |

1) Bcc Archiving where every mail sent and received is backed up in another mail box
2) Ability to archive entire mailbox ; not just one folder 3) Search like Gmail or powermail client |

I would also like the ability to rename special folders. e.g. "Sent Items" -> "Sent". Been wanting to change that for a while. Renaming the Junk folder would be nice too. |

Charset
Probably the only thing I find unsatisfactory with FM's interface is its clumsy way of selecting the character set. This should be done from the compose screen, making an one-off change easy. with the default charset selected in options (where it is now).
My request is thus: make the character set selectable from the compose screen |

Please implement the IMAP "Important" flag in the web interface. There are only four standard IMAP flags - why ignore one???

A "permanent" Status Bar so things (like the folders, menu bar, etc) don't move up and down on the screen as the status messages appear. (with a users choice of account name: at the beginning of the status bar)

Of course the basics are global search and message annotation, or at least flagging. I'd like to be able to set maximum message age parameters for every folder (ie, delete all msgs more than X months old). I'd like to be able to archive msgs without their attachments. And so on.
But here's something new: I'd like a search feature that works on folders. I would like to be able to hit Cntrl-F or something in the folder list, type a few characters, and be whisked to the folder I want. It may not be realistic but I have enough folders now to make a feature like that useful. Some day you will too. |
