Here in the USA @ik.me will be entered correctly exactly never if it has to be typed in. I have found that even the most normal email addresses are entered incorrectly frequently, causing all sorts of problems. Also, I would be concerned about deliverability once the free email addresses get vacuumed up by the spammers.

What's their funding stream? Free email with no ads doesn't sound very lucrative.

"Ik" means "I" in Dutch, so can't deny the domain name is not unattractive. Storage space is very good too. I don't need cloud storage space or other features like calendar, but I guess I can always opt out of using those.
And I'm in Belgium, so I guess if I'd sign up before the service is opened up to more countries, I could get quite a good username However... I don't want to create mailboxes just for the sake of it, as it's a hassle to check all of them in time. They say "email for life", but is the company backing this service really having a financial stability that indicates the service is likely to stay around long time? I've seen services declare "email for life" before... None of those services is still around. |

Ik.me is from the service Infomaniak.
They are known in Europe for their domain and web hosting. I stumbled across it after looking into Switzerland's privacy laws, which are some of the best in the world. They also have a drive, K drive I believe, similar to Google Drive, but more privacy oriented (and available on F-Droid, which is a bonus). So I think it is here to stay around for quite a while, because it is the same email platform used when you buy a domain from them (they give you a free email and starter web hosting). |

Just got myself a new email with ik.me. I've to say I'm enjoying it no less than the major players eg. Gmail and even better than Hey.com tbh. However I'm not from EU so have to use a free online SMS receiver to signup...hence, I'm a little concerned to use it seriously.
