The review is probably useful for those engaged in illegal activity who are considering the use of Fastmail. (Fastmail is unsuitable for such users.) For people who want to avoid having their private data collected and sold to commercial entities, Fastmail provides an excellent service with privacy features fit for purpose. What is lost in so many of these reviews that focus on end-to-end encryption is that you lose the ability to efficiently carry out day-to-day email activities.
For a few people, there could be a case for an occasional use email service that provides over-the-top security for exceptional circumstances. I would personally not use Fastmail to transmit nuclear codes. However, even users who feel they need an ultra secure service, would still (if they care about using email efficiently) be wise to use a service for the vast bulk of their communications that allows flexible search, organisation, and use of standard mail clients.
