Windows Live Mail Beta

New from Microsoft - you can sign up to participate in the beta.
One part of what may become a whole new suite of web-based applications.
Windows Live Mail beta
Sleek and simple, with added security
What it is
Fast and simple e-mail that makes it easy to read, send and organize your messages. The “beta” part means it’s a work in progress, so we need your input to make sure it’s built right.
What it gives you
• Previews of your messages you can read without leaving your inbox
• Drag-and-drop organization
• One-click control over junk and scam e-mails
• Right-click power—reply, delete, and forward
• 2 GB of storage (2 GB = 2,000,000,000 bytes)

I don't understand. Is this related to Hotmail some how or an entirely new mail service?

careful my browser tells me:

Microsoft sees they will lose software sales business to free web-based applications, some of which are becoming viable, such as Writely.com for word processing, and NumSum.com for spreadsheets.

This email service is part of an entirely new setup Microsoft is starting called "Windows Live", which will eventually include web-based versions of Microsoft software such as Word and Works and which will be ad-supported. They are trying to get the jump on Google and Yahoo.

You can see the home page of Windows Live beta here:

Yep; they're also afraid Google's going to come out with something like this first (if they're afraid - maybe something's in the works?!) and they wanted to beat them to the punch.

Oh, Google definitely has several things in the works! They've been trying to keep them under their hat. One is Google Base:
still closed to all except the developers.

Hi,

Looks like shots through a digital camera, but iff you press prnt screen you could then save the actual shots as it appears on screen through Paint as jpgs, if this would make things clearer as the current screenshots aren't as clear as they could be.

lol those are shots taken at the conference. Live office isn't ...live...

In my case, this goes to the same page where more than one month ago I requested to upgrade my Hotmail account, but I have not received any communication about it.

Therefore, I have asked for it again using Live and, again, no upgrade have been made and no communication received.

I cannot understand how Microsoft can be a so really bad company, unable to respect their own offers and promises. Just remember when they announced that Hotmail accounts will grow to 250 MB and how many months we needed (one of my accounts was upgraded just last month) to get this improvement.

I signed up as a beta user two weeks ago...

Just yesterday I received the confirmation: the text of the confirmation made it appear to be a survey scam. I went no further with it, just in case...

EDIT 11/15: Note that in the two days since I received the confirmation, I have started getting spammed at my MSN account. Before the frequency was about one every 10 days; I have now had 7 in two days FWIW...

Javier 14 Nov 2005 06:14 AM

In my case, I have asked for one invitation to Hotmail Beta or Windows Live Mail Beta in several occassions (first one, october 10th) and I have not received any message or confirmation.
