Is GMail phasing out basic HTML?
I've noticed over the past few weeks, with two different GMail accounts, that it loads the standard view by default, even though both accounts use the "set basic HTML view as default" option.
For each session, I now have to repeatedly refresh the page until I can choose the "Load basic HTML" option link at the bottom right of the screen quickly enough to get the page to load in basic HTML. Has anyone else experienced this? I hate standard view. |
I wouldnt be surprised if they did.....
BASIC HTML works on ANY BROWSER and they dont care about that, its really sad..... I hope you can keep using basic my friend!! |
I don't normally use the basic HTML view but I was easily able to open a new window and look at it. The Google support article on the subject doesn't make any mention of it going away: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/15049?hl=en

Hopefully they dont remove it!!!!

Thanks for the replies. :)
I just logged in with my dial-up machine, and it went straight to basic HTML. So they might be pre-selecting which interface to use based on connection speed, despite any preferences set by the user. |
Sounds like a bug to me.
Gmail is going straight to html with messages for me, but that’s a very fast connection. |

However, an online search turned up an acceptable workaround -- adding the following URL to bookmarks: https://mail.google.com/?ui=html |
