They are cumbersome so that's why you leave them off until Spammers start coordinated attacks against SpamGourmet addresses. Watchwords mean new addresses can't be created at random and old addresses...

This is because there is a 72 character limit for plaintext specified in email RFC's. Most email softwares comply with this limit. If you want to control your own line spacing, use HTML composing.

Secure mode switches you over to SSL during login. SSL means the computer you're on and the FM Web Server handling your activity (end to end) knows what is being transmitted but no router or sniffer...

You can easily use your FM account to handle outgoing mail for your website. The website will need your user/pass and be sure that the website doesn't accidentally turn into a tool for spammers.

Gmail hasn't made much progress in 6 months other than to add an HTML mode which makes the service tolerable over a 28K modem. JS mode is almost as bad as spring loaded folders.
