This is something I've been looking for as well, and I discovered instead of using the 'Quick Links/Today's Posts', you can
subscribe to threads.
For example the "About this site" forum.
Click on that forum name, then go to 'Forum Tools' and select 'Subscribe to this forum'. You can then choose if you want notifications, etc.
I've subscribed to all forums except the off-topic one.
