The Adblock extention does not automatically block ads. You have to specifically instruct it to block ads from specific URLs/ Servers. I usually don't block unobtrusive text or even html ads that are not too colorful as to distract attention. But I do block out ads that infere with my attention to the material at hand, and especially flash ad that keeps playing the loop over and over and over in an ad.... that's especially distracting. I don't think Adblock - that is, its wide adoption - will actually end ads, but it will force them to evolve into becoming more effective and at the same time less intrusive. Google's text ads are a really great example.

Glad you like it. Btw I should mention that a lot of (if not most) of Opera's functionality is also available in Firefox via extentions.. heck they even have an extention for those who love Opera displaying the Google text ads (or find it helpful)... the adbar extention adds ads to your browser, if you prefer an ad-ful browser.

Adblock is *wonderful*! Together with the built-in popup blocker, it's one of the main reasons I like Firefox so much. It was annoying ads, especially popups bypassing my Google Toolbar, that finally pushed me over the edge to overcome inertia and dump IE for Firefox.

I'm like you, FMRocks. I don't try to block all ads, but if one annoys me too much, then *zap*, it's gone!

Opera is a very interesting browser. I paid for it and was very committed for a long time. However,I have to say the Gecko browsers from Mozilla are superb - Mozilla, Firefox, Camino and Netscape. I haven't used IE as a personal browser in three or four years. I use it on an office machine because we live in a PC world and IE is the browser they "support". At home I use a Mac, and Mac has a wide array of great browsers available for it, including Opera. Frankly, the one I use most is Firefox. It's very, very good, and unlike Opera, it supports Gmail, or Gmail supports it. The new beta of Opera for Windows seems to work with Gmail but like many things with Opera, adjustments are necessary.

How do I get the Beta version of Opera? I can't find it on their site.

And is it ok to upgrade OVER the current installation? I kind of hate switching to FF to get my Gmails.

Thanks JAvier! But does anyone know if it's safe to install over the current installation?

I have installed over previous Opera 7.40 and I don't have any problem using it (but some problems with GMail, ).

It offers you the option to install in another folder if desired.

The page you linked for us says that it is more safe to uninstall and install the beta so that's what I suggest.

I hope the moderators don't move this to the OT forum...I finally got 200 posts!

I have just uploaded my Menu to My.Opera.Com, it's currently waiting to be reviewed by a moderator before it shows up on the site.

It's tested-and-confirmed on Opera 7.5, but keep in mind that this is a Beta version of my menu, please!

It currently does the following things:

1. Open in Internet Explorer.
2. Open in in FireFox. See below!
3. Create TinyURL.
4. Find BugMeNot logins.
5. Winamp Controls: Play, Stop, Previous, Next, Mute, Volume Half, Volume Full, Increase Volume (1%), Decrease Volume (1%). See below!
--------------------

2. Firefox: There's a slight problem. I don't know where FireFox is installed on the user's computer. I have it set to H:\FireFox\FireFox.exe, as that is where I have it. In order to change this, you'll need to edit the file. It's located in \Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Opera\Opera75\profile\menu\kanderv01.ini , the path can be slightly different depending on your Opera version... You can open the file in Notepad. Just Find 'FireFox.exe' and put the proper path there. I am working on a solution for this.

5. Winamp: This depends on the CLEveR plugin, you can find it here. I am working on support for another plugin as well (Winamp_Command).
------------------

I know, it's not very perfect yet.. but I'm working on it.

Firefox is located in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

Not necessary. You can select another folder to install and, also, you can install Firefox everywhere you want: just download the zipped file.

To complicate this more, remember that Windows change the name of the folder to install programs depending on release (not the same with ME than with XP) and depending on language (in spanish, "Archivos de programa" instead of "Program files", for example), but this may be solved using environment variables as %PROGRAMFILES% and so on
