Who Offers Autoreply with File Attachment?
I used to have "You've Got Post" email account before they went offline. One thing I really liked about that service was that I could set up an autoreply to send back a file attachment.
Does anyone know any other email services that offer the ability to attach a file to an autoreply? Or, if not, the brand of server software "You've Got Post" used? |

I don't know of any such services, but I would be curious as to why you would want to send an attachment in an auto-reply.

Yeah, it seems upsetting to the delicate balance of stopping abuse and use for legitimate purposes. There is more chance for people to abuse this then there is legitimate use.

An autoreply is just a small text indicating the recipent recieved the mail or read it. It shouldn't include any attachments that might cause a jam in someone's mailbox.

Judging from the response, it would seem that this feature is not common. I thought it was a very useful feature when I used Youvegotpost. When I was away on vacation I set it up to auroreply to that effect, and attached an animated gif of a beach scene to the message. The people who got that graphic autoreply asked me how I set that up and if they could do that also - so they seemed to like the idea.
I was under the impression that virtually every modern email service can handle file attachments, and the few that don't support them simply refuse the message. It seems a lot of people have their own preferences of what email "should" be for everyone else. Maybe limit all mail to simple text messages only and ban attachments, HTML, graphics, and everything else. I would have probably agreed with that back when I was using an ancient computer, and getting a mail composed as a HTML webpage would crash that PC. But today, with a new computer, I'd rather explore all the possibilities. If trying out a new feature somehow causes problems then I'll fix it and adapt. Thanks for the reply. If no one knows of any autoresponders, then I can continue to search myself - there are bound to be email services offering that feature, though maybe not with a 1GB box as well. |

I did some checking around and found out some interesting things.
The YouveGotPost service was using mail server software by Gossamer Mail. This software not only allows attachments (usually only very small ones) to autoreplies, but it also gives administrators full access to see everyone's passwords and read everyone's mail. I wonder if this is a common "feature" of mail server software? Quote:

You can do this trick with Communigate Pro, but the attachment has to be in MIME format in the rule creation window.
For CGP systems with rules enabled, you can search the board. |
