Drew, I never said or implied that the freeze was the fault of an Apple product, only that it might have been related to the fact that I use an older version of an Apple browser and operating system. Both the OS and the browser work great, and I see no need to upgrade or replace them as long as they let me do what I need to do (although that time may be slowly coming to an end, as it eventually does for all software). Thanks for the response, but I really don't think my problem was Apple's fault!

new vmail.me mystery
As discussed earlier in this thread, for many months vmail.me displayed a message saying "HTML mail temporarily disabled" and no email could be opened and read, not even a user's own messages in the 'sent' folder, regardless of whether it was in HTML or plaintext.
That situation was finally fixed a while ago and a new RoundCube interface appeared, which seemed to work OK. Then, about a week ago, when I tried going to https://www.vmail.me/webmail/ to log in, this message appeared -- ---------------------- DATABASE ERROR: CONNECTION FAILED! Unable to connect to the database! Please contact your server-administrator. ---------------------- The vmail Twitter feed said that a "server migration" was in progress as of 16 November, and the error message continued to appear for several more days. Now that has changed, but yet another mystery has arisen. The "database error" message is gone and https://www.vmail.me/webmail/ now works and brings up the RoundCube interface the same way it did before the server migration, but if you go to the home page and click on "login," you get taken to https://www.vmail.me/# which gives only partial access to the account. This page offers no access to the inbox. There is a log-out button, a drop-down menu to select a language, and an arrow next to the account name that produces another drop-down menu that offers six options: IMAP/POP/SMTP settings Rescue email Email redirection Change my password Recover contacts (42 days left) [see below for further discussion] Delete my account I tested the "redirection" choice and entered a forwarding address. I was asked for my password again as confirmation. When I sent a test message to the vmail account the message was correctly forwarded, so these options do work, but why are they placed on a page that offers no apparent way of reaching the inbox? You can log-out from that page, and if you then go to https://www.vmail.me/webmail/ you can log in at the RoundCube interface and use your account that way, but it seems an odd way of doing things. This is all very strange. Even stranger, and more disturbingly mysterious, is the count-down of days that follows "Recover Contacts." In the example above it stood at "42 days left." Yesterday it had dropped to "37 days left." I pondered what this might mean. At first I thought perhaps it was counting down to the expiration of the inactivity period, but that can't be the case, since a user only sees this drop-down menu after logging in, so any inactivity period would have been re-set to the maximum by that point because of the log-in. Anyway, the number continues to drop each day regardless of whether a user has recently logged on or not. I wonder, what happens after the number reaches zero? I reckon I'll find out in thirty-six days! Also, I wonder why this down-counter seems to apply only to "recovering" contacts? By the way, the original welcome message received from vmail.me upon sign-up contained a contact link saying "For any further questions/suggestions: https://www.vmail.me/contact," but that URL now results in a 404-Page-Not-Found Message. I presume that other members have encountered these oddities. Any thoughts? |

communicant following your instructions I can confirm
the 37 days left. As I get it they have changed the 3GB free to 500MB free and coming soon is 5GB for payed so maybe what we see is the warning that the 3GB changed to 500MB? But the contacts where odd. Can it be that the free plan have no contacts? Just me guessing. I got curious on if the delete you account would work so I clicked on that one and it said that now my account is deleted. I cannot log in now when I tested it again so my account is gone now I did not need it I just joined for to help out in EMD forum in case somebody wants to know if the HTML had changed. So now I am out of this thread for good ![]() |

Well, here's the interesting thing is on the homepage if you push the three line icon you can get a new menu with pricing options and login but I can't at present get that to work, and my free account says I've actually got 1gb of storage when the pricing page says 500mb most odd.

I think it should be noted for anyone using vmail.me that their Privacy Policy is a blank page.

The site is certainly down, but that has happened before. Why do you think that this time it may be "forever"? (I ask out of curiosity only. The service is clearly no loss, whether this is yet another temporary outage or something more permanent.)

Interestingly, vfemail.net is also down, the people who were taking the service over so it doesn't look good if they've gone down to.
