Feature suggestion - view conversation for particular message
I am not a fan of conversation view, especially not as the default. So I leave it off.
But every so often in a message I want to see the entire conversation that the particular message is in. I would like to see an option for "view conversation" within a message. I did a brief search for "conversation" before posting. I apologize if someone else has suggested this and I missed it. Andrew |

I am the same. I tried conversation view once or twice but it was awful. People tend to collect several topics into one conversation and other people start new conversations for the same topic, so it generally doesn't work, and worse, it doesn't allow filing different messages in the conversation according to the topics: if one message in a conversation belongs to a folder/label then all other (irrelevant) messages must be filed with it.
When I want to view all messages in a conversation I usually do a search (for some participant in the conversation or part of the subject). It;s not the same as conversation view but usually works well enough. |

Is this regarding messages of an email account, or about messages on the emaildiscussionforum?

Converstion View is also available in GMail. I do not exactly like it , myself, but in one account, this kind of view is active. It means, some messages need to be expanded for reading more of the conversation.

This requirement, as well as others, could be met by a kind of macro facility within the Fastmail UI. Basically, it would allow you to automate, what is normally a sequence of steps, using a macro assigned to a specific key combination and/or mouse click. The switching between conversation and single message mode is an example use case . Such a macro would accelerate what is normally a cumbersome effort of going to settings; enabling or disabling conversation mode; and then returning to the original message view.

I wish one could choose, per folder, whether emails default to being displayed in plain text (which is what I have as an overall default), or HTML view (which I only use when there's no plain text or for senders whose plain text is badly created - or worse: auto-generated - and does not contain the content that's in the HTML part).
Yes, at least one can use "View as ..." in the Actions menu for a single email, but that's a pain if you want to read a set of emails in the non-default way. And going back & forth to Settings to change the overall default is also a nuisance. |
