Sherry, give is a warning before you go PALE. I'm in the Dallas TX area, and think that most posters here are in more northern areas (including Europe). Of course, we send some heat via the Gulf Stream to the eastern US seaboard and Europe to keep them warmer than their latitude deserves. It's been near or below freezing the past few nights, and last week I was in Denver where it was around 0 F with some snow.

Well, before I go pale I'm thinking of buying a plug-in heater if they have a good one on SALE around here.

Before we TALK about temperatures, we need to keep in mind the scale (considering our international posters). 0 C and 0 F and 0 K are far apart! One is freezing, the next very cold, and the final absolute zero.

I only know Fahrenheit but for anything else I will just TAKE a copy of my little converter program from my start menu to my desktop to keep it handy.

You can TAME Celsius easily.
![]() One Celsius degree is precisely 1.8 Fahrenheit degrees. So 5 Celsius degrees is 9 Fahrenheit degrees. The freezing point of water is 0 degrees C, or 32 degrees F. So 5 C is 32+9=41 F, 10 C is 32+18=50 F, 15 C is 32+27=59 F, 20 C is 32+36= 68 F, 25 C is 32+45= 77 F, 30 C is 32+54= 86 F, 35 C is 32+63= 95 F, 40 C is 32+72= 104 F, 45 C is 32+81= 113 F, and 50 C is 32+90= 122 F. It rarely gets to 40 C in most of Europe, although it can be that nearly every day for a month every summer here in Texas! At 50 C you can't really survive very long. |

I know I CAME here to EMD to get knowledge - but - you sure gave me knowledge. Now instead of typing in one number then click=answer I will come to your knowledgeable post and look to see what the F is. (anyone typing in a C needs to be sure to type in one that Bill provided the answer for me no matter how long it takes me to find it in the post)

I didn't mean to focus on the special CASE of those temperatures. Instead, I meant to teach you how to calculate the answer yourself inside your head. I hope that isn't too lofty a goal for our smart posters!

Woah, hold on Bill! ....us less smart posters need more TIME to remember your formula!
It's cold and foggy in most of the UK this morning, I thought I knew roughly what the temperature is, but not so sure now ![]() |
