If they haven't abolished them you can simply generate an app password for Claws Mail and use that in place of the account password.
The wording in the Claws Mail link suggests that "Enable less secure app access" is needed if you can't use OAUTH2, but I think it was just to allow the use of the account password, with app passwords being allowed once 2FA is turned-on. It's many years since I set-up an app-password for a gmail account, so I'm not 100% sure. |

I use Claws Mail. It is now located in Google Account Info, Security, 2-Step Verification, at the bottom of the screen you will find App passwords.
