Any experiences with Porkbun and/or DonDominio?
I guess especially Porkbun has been tried by several people here, so I thought I'd ask.
I am considering registering an extra domain. I have been with the same registrar for over a decade, very satisfied of them. But I thought it may be a good idea to give another registrar a try too for this new domain. I heard many people have been using Porkbun for quite a long time. Question to those who have tried them: are you satisfied with the service? Do you find them a reliable registrar? Is the customer service (per email and phone) easy to reach? Has the registrar been going for a long while now, indicating that they are reliable for the long haul? Did anyone try the Spanish registrar DonDominio? For some ccTLD's they have really good prices. Again, I've never used them myself, so I was wondering if anyone here has and can testify if they are reliable, have good customer support, etc.? Thanks for any replies. |

I've been using Porkbun for at least 6-8 years--can't really remember. They are excellent! I have nothing bad to say about them. The very few times I have needed customer service they have been fast and efficient via email. Nothing has ever failed or broken--just works. I particularly like their email forwarding with each domain. I think you get 20 free forwards and it has been very fast and reliable. I've been trying out their full email service ($24 per year for one address) and it seems very fast and reliable. Super easy to set up if your domain is hosted there.

Glad to hear that. I've been with another registrar for over 15 years, but thought it may be wise to spread domains a bit. If one account would for some reason not function anymore, then not all my domains would be affected. I don't know if that is wise or being overconcerned, but I've been thinking about that lately. Porkbun could be a great registrar for the to-register-new-domain I want. They're ICANN accredited too, I see on their site, so that's great! One question: do they allow 2-step-verification? Couldn't see that on their website really. I do see they offer free WHOIS privacy, but I don't really need that as I live in the European Union. EU-based registrants of .com domains have their private details hidden in WHOIS searches automatically, when looking up the domain it will say "redacted for privacy" when the domain owner is EU-based. |

Yes, Porkbun does have 2FA. I believe they offer email, authenticator app codes, and security/passkeys.

Do you know which device they use for sending authenticator app codes for signing in? And do they only send such code to the authenticator once someone has entered the correct email/username and password? I mean, someone who doesn't know my password but would have access to my device that receives the one-off code, could not sign into my account? |

Porkbun has a good Knowledge Base with answers to these questions. In short, you can get a 2FA code via an app like Google Authenticator, then you enter that code after you have entered the correct username/password combo. Instead, you can use a physical key to supply a code using Webauthn. And they have Passkey support for passwordless login.
