C'mon FastMail crew, let's get this up and keep it up. Three times in one day?

server4 outage

One of our servers (server4) will be down for the next hour and a half, to resolve a problem with one of its disks. This disk has been in a bad way today, so people on this server will have noticed slowness.

Sorry about the outage - we'll keep you updated on progress.

Thanks for the update - guess I will hang out with Gmail for the next hour or so to read my emails.

At one time my account was on server2, so why I am affected? Is there a way to tell if I am still on server2? Just curious.

creating an entire new thread like this isn't going to solve anything, it just creates more clutter.

just be patient.

What server am I on?

When viewing an email you can show the headers and this will detail which server received your email and this is the server your account resides.

Thanks. Guess I'll have to wait to be able to do that....

Another question: why does the status page continue to say the server is up when my account continues to be inaccessible?

The server disk rebuild finished, but now the server has crashed shortly after starting mail services. We're looking into what's happened here...

Disk problems - RAID, I hope?

Are the disk(s) in question on the failed server in some kind of hot-swappable / hot-rebuildable RAID configuration? That would of course eliminate this particular form of downtime.

If not, I hope you'll consider migrating this and other primary user mail storage to a RAID level adequate to provide immunity from any single disk failure. (RAID 5 or better.)

My two bits from the peanut gallery; aside from period downtime Fastmail is truly a great service.

When is the outage going to be over? I'm still getting authentication errors with POP/SSL and an error page when I try to log in the webmail interface.

Yes please. An ETA would be greatly appreciated. I'm kicking myself in the foot for leaving my backup emails at home.

I now so desperately need to read some of the past emails.

Cheers,
Suresh

I'd sort of like an ETA on this too, so I quit wasting time reloading the screen.

Unhappy ETA?

Another vote for an ETA on the ill server... I am surprised at the length and severity of this outage - never had a problem like this before... what gives?
