I don't want to stir anything up, just curious about it. John has helped me a lot and I consider him a friend, but I also realize he doesn't post as much on EMD. There's also a separate Tuffmail forum... |

Since I posted that in January 2003, things have moved somewhat. For instance, there are masses more threads, posts and companies participating than then. Frankly, the administrative hassle of handholding companies over $25 a year wouldn't be worth it at this point, so while it may have been a good idea 4.5 years ago, it's an unworkable idea now...

Round-up of service reps -- February 2008 (part 1)
These are all the ones I know about, there may be others...
(Nearly three years later than I intended, but still...) As before, this time around I have deleted all those I know about where the service has died; and where the service is moribund or the rep hasn't visited EMD in far too long (it's usually both), I've marked the service in red. As always, these lists are E&OE; any corrections are welcome. 4or.us: William Holmes www.bigimap.com: gisarah (service still active but rep last here in 2004) Bluebottle.com: rob_au, jon_au (couldn't confirm jon_au's status as there don't seem to be any posts by him) BurntMail: ckirk, line_fault CentralPets: Roger (last here in 2002) CheckP3 (email client provider) (last here in 2004 -- note that web page is mostly in Italian) Computermail.net: Computermail.net Cwazy.co.uk: stevew emailx.net: emailx.net (last posted here in 2002. Love their use of the Spectrum font, but their claim of "Email vastly superior to AOL, Hotmail & Yahoo" isn't saying much.) eslzone.com: WendyB (last here in 2003; on 2008/1/2 @ 02:10, site was just a directory, but this might just be a glitch) everyone.net: btn Excite.com, MyWay.com: tkallen78 (just one post, back in 2004) fadmail.com: Fahd (last post was in 2005. WARNING: when I visited homepage, it linked to notorious spyware site "Cursor Mania") fastcheck.org: spiderman fastmail.ca: hackish (AFAIK doesn't check these forums; appeared once because his service was mistaken for the one below. When opened on 2008/2/2 @02:33, was slow to open.) fastmail.fm: Jeremy Howard, robmueller, kurianja, Onno, sam_watkins, rjlov, masta (no longer active), brong, Cory Johns (note that apart from Jeremy and Rob, some of these may be no longer active -- best go through the support channels) filtermy.com (spam filtering service): FilterMy (last posted in 2004) www.freepop3.net: FreePop3 (last posted in 2004) Fusemail.com: bryanh, plathem www.galaway.com: Galaway (last here in 2005: domain expired 21 January) gawab.com: Gawab (warning, listed on RFC-Ignorant; some bulletin boards reject signups from this domain) www.gishpuppy.com: gishpuppy (last here in 2004) HotPop.com: Eric Savage (last here in 2004) Hugemail.com: Hektor (last here in 2005) HypeWise.com: Hypewise (only post was in 2003) icarusindie.com: KalvinB (regards his users as "leeches", and made posts full of logic errors; also appears to have left EMD and not come back; none of which bodes well for the soundness of his service) www.imap4all.com: imap4all (last here in 2005) inbox.com: : MikeF (last here in 2003) inumbers.com: rbpickup jlmail.com: jlnt killer.kkk.sg: Killer (note that the ac.gs domain space is long-dead) www.lionrampant.co.uk: root (there seems to be a certificate problem, at least when the site is viewed with Firefox) MailAndNews.*: see ShanjeMail MailCruncher.com (spam-filtering service): OutboundIndex (last here 2004) Mailsnare: Madiver, Allan mochamail.com: mochamail (last here in 2002) ModoMail: ModoEd, modovlad (couldn't connect) morgle.com: terrymechan (last here in 2004) NameCheap: enetwork (last here in 2003) OnlineHomeBase: marcfest (only one EMD post, in 2003) phatcom.net: marsel (marsel appears to have been a phatcom reseller; I don't think he is any longer) plaxo.com: rikk, PlaxoPrivacy, redgee (user no longer exists) (last here 2005) POP Peeper (email notifier): Sirath Runbox: Liz, Geir, Arunav (no longer active), hanslysglimt, trond, sigurdur, tore, jschreib, Trip (continued in following post) Last edited by robert@fm : 3 Feb 2008 at 04:30 AM. |

SacMail.com: sacmail
www.Shadango.com : BenKrembs (last here 2004) ShanjeMail: stevepierce (doesn't appear to be checking in here any longer (last here 2003), isn't very responsive to customer problems, takes a "blame the victim" approach to joe-jobs... Also, has changed to a new mail system and all old accounts need to be reactivated, but many users have reported that the reactivation form doesn't work. Avoid this "service".) slashmail.org (personal) / clivity.com (business): slashmail www.smileglobal.com: smileglobal (last here 2005; now business-only) SnapperMail (email client provider): snapperfish (last post here was 2003) snooty.com / snooty.net: snooty spl.at: jonpanky (last posted here in June 2002) www.strompost.com: strompost (last here 2004) Switchemail.com: rvats (last here 2003) unlimitedmail.net: carles (last here 2004) vfemail.net: Havokmon zworg.com: tfishwick (last here 2003) (all below are unsorted -- it's late...) mailtrust.com: DTWinters (last here 2005) freepops.org: russels itzoom.com: mike_regan topemail.biz/polaris.com: topemail eumx.net: fabule unitedemail.com: UnitedEmail, DavidW, LisaF redpin.com: redpin e4ward.com: e4ward goowy.com: Alexgoowy kify.com: kify nu.fm: nufm lunarismail.info: richammond zoobuh.com: zoobuh mail2world.com: mail2world GoDaddy.com: V99 controlledmail.com: Scott Kitterman open-mail.org: David MacQuigg mugamail.com: MugaDev Note that as I am very tired (it was 04:37 UTC when I typed this bit), there are likely to be errors... And I (of course) haven't bothered to include any site that's come and gone since the last update (e.g. pluno.com is now a downloads site)... |

Could a mod please give the above post the same title as the previous one, but of course Part 2 instead of 1?

Round-up of services which are dead or no longer have reps here -- February 2008
This list includes services which appear dead to me. Feel free to retest and submit a report if need be.

Polarismail isn't free, no argument here. But, AFAIK, offering a free service isn't a condition of being included in the list. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

lavabit has a rep here. Told us about their webmail yesterday.
Bluebottle seems to both be here and not be here? They seems to give priority to their own forum and only answer here if they feel for it kind of. That is the impression I got from them officially. |
