rocketmail.com
rocketmail.com, one of the very first web-based email providers is still active as a domain but run under yahoo.com.
IRC, it was the actual system that yahoo! bought to standup their email service. My wife's account was activated in 1995 and is still working fine, I got one at the same time, but I converted the name to yahoo.com when they were merged. |

I use to have an account there and it was a nice unique webmail service. It’s a shame it’s gone.
Services : Dubmail Cwazy Lionrampant (correct spelling?) Mocha mail has stopped some account logins. The nicest webmail system and domains which don’t seem to be running is the getemail.org and other domains) They used the very nice Worldclient webmail, Don’t know if any still use it? Openmailbox.com is now tied in with a 1 year free account through memail.com Vfemail still going - can’t get into old account Myrealbox.com was a beta for some software -now closed Also from my attempts don’t work for me. Where are you logging in Last edited by jdtaylor : 21 Apr 2022 at 06:10 AM. Reason: Correcting errors |

I'm using this source for a fictional post-apocalyptic scenario. (novel writing). If aliens invaded and were able to take over and track most wireless transmissions, what legacy systems might still be operating over legacy hardline infrastructure?
For a real-world instance, there is the "office equipment" (yes, that's what it is actually called) installed in all automated telephone exchanges that enables dial-up internet connections, even though that infrastructure has long since been superseded by better technology. The infrastructure has been maintained because many government systems still rely on that dial-up service to communicate with their databases. Fictionally speaking, you are always better off using real resources than made up ones, since it's so much easier to describe things that actually exist. |
