Cannot Delete Name from GMail

Even though I have deleted a contact, the name still remains on my contact list. Obviously I wish not to see the name. Can anyone help me?

for example IE8 or chrome

I don't think it matters!
Put a check mark beside the name you want to delete then
Click on where it says "more" with a down arrow beside it near
the top but below the ads along the same line as your email address!

Put a check mark beside the name you want to delete then Click on where it says "more" with a down arrow beside it near the top but below the ads along the same line as your email address!
