Another question for the moderators!

The forum has a new member: https://www.emaildiscussions.com/member.php?u=44027

They haven't - at time of writing - posted anything, spam or otherwise. But their profile is indicating that they are advertising a product/service.

Would you class the use of the forum in this way as spamming?

Sometimes I reply to spammers on various sites just congratulating them for being fools (Then I report it)

I noticed that myself, but since they haven't posted spam or a url, I decided not to take any action at this time.

Since I started this thread, in addition to reporting spammers I've also been posting to say I've reported the spammer.

Now, I'm thinking perhaps this is not a good idea?

I'm assuming that people are seeing my post, and thinking 'OK, it's spam and it's been reported, so I don't also need to report it'.

Looking at it from the moderators point of view, they're not receiving many reports of spammers, so no urgency - perhaps one of the other mods will pick up on it.

The weekend before last, there was a spam post that had been reported by 'Fenman' and he had posted that fact. After a few hours, noticing that the spam post was still there, I also reported it to the mods. Later on in the day, I looked again and the spam post was still there - some 7+ hours since they had originally posted. So then I reported it again to the mods. Thankfully the next day the offending spam had been removed.

IMO, for a spam post to be on the forum for that length of time is not acceptable, as it may only encourage spammers.

I will continue to report any spammers, but will not post the fact that I have done. That may encourage others to also report spam.

Hopefully, it makes for a better forum.

I always do this.

I must say that the moderators generally respond quickly to remove spam.

If I see a spam post I always report it. I do not post any reply to that post. I never assume it has already be reported. If the post is blatantly obviously spam, I just enter spam.

If I see spam then I report it, unless someone else indicated (in a reply) that it was already reported.
If I still see it after a few hours I assume that some moderators actually have a life.

As there are 13 listed forum moderators, and only around 3 of them are currently active, I don't assume it - there's absolutely no doubt that they have a life outside of the forum.

Unfortunately, due to the absentee moderators abrogating their responsibilities, it does put extra pressure on the active ones.

No moderator agreed to serve for life, so they are free to "abrogate their responsibilities", as you call it.
The forum owner, the only person capable to add/delete moderators, does absolutely nothing to resolve the situation. So if anybody abrogated their responsibilities, it's the owner, not the moderators.

The forum owner has not agreed to serve for life either.
The fact that nowadays he does not regularly post on the forum does not mean that he does not regularly monitor abuse reports.
