Fastmail Restructuring

https://union.place/@fastmailunited/112672408714595554

Quote:
We have some unfortunate news. @fastmail has made the decision to lay off 60% of our bargaining unit, including our bargaining committee, in a surprise restructure while we were in the middle of contract negotiations. Fortunately, we were able to negotiate for a much better severance package than we would have gotten had we not unionized when we did. We are grateful for the work that the Communication Workers of America put in on our behalf to get us the best deal they could.

Being British I don't really understand American unions.
Has Fastmail laid off workers due to them wanting to belong to a union ?

According to this Fastmail decided to consolidate their development and marketing activities in one place, because they were having difficulties with running those activities from two very distant locations.
Historically Fastmail was owned by its employees, not by venture capitalists.

That's the POBox.com staff in Philadelphia, which might explain why they have not been accepting new signups for months. I wouldn't be surprised if POBox.com users are transferred to Fastmail and POBox.com shuts down.

It will be good.

I am paying for both services.

They should add Pobox.com to fastmail.com, and user merge also.

So we don't need to pay twice for the same services.

Why pay now for both?
Many years (since 2001) I used to pay for both, but when Fastmail purchased Pobox I upgraded my Pobox account to Mailstore, moved everything from Fastmail to Pobox and deleted my Fastmail account.
I continue to use Fastmail's web interface, like I always did!

Let's hope POBox.com's "Email for Life" promise is kept.

I want to merge Pobox data to Fastmail

As Fastmail is main account and having several alias too.

So Need to keep both alive till any option of merge is not available.

Was that an actual promise, though?

Email forwarding was an era like pager and walky talky.

So that line was fitting perfect in 1995

Yes, let's hope so.
Otherwise I'm in big trouble!

Well, it's the first statement under "Powerful Features" at the top of their homepage still.

Sure!
It's been always their slogan!
Even now their main page (www.pobox.com) says:
"EMAIL FOR LIFE
Get an address you never have to change, at your own domain or one of ours."
