Outlook.com connection issues from apps
Since around 23 Jan 2024, there have been problems reported with access to outlook.com email accounts via POP, IMAP, and Exchange connections. I noticed this early on 29 Jan 2024 when my Fastmail account first failed to fetch messages from my Outlook account.
Microsoft acknowledges this problem but has not resolved this issue yet. The problem even affects the Outlook email app, Thunderbird, and mobile email apps. They suggest logging into outlook.com on the web, which still works. See: Outlook and other apps are unable to connect to Outlook.com Bill |

I have not had any issues with Claws-Mail. I check three accounts on a daily basis via POP3.
I have noticed occasional timeouts, but a recheck of the account succeeds. I use outlook.office365.com:995 and smtp.office365.com:587 I do not use OAUTH2. |

As I pointed out.in my earlier post (based on the Microsoft support page link), the issue was authentication and affected all types of access, not just IMAP. Microsoft says this issue is now resolved. See:
Microsoft support update After reading the updated notice from Microsoft today, I did the following:

You know I remember at some point creating app passwords for each of my accounts. I checked each account settings in Claws Mail. The password in for each account is using the same password (different password each account) to access the accounts web interface. My password manager only shows one password each account. There would be an added app password entry if I was using one. Hm...
I guess if I start having issues, I know what to check for first. |
