I am unhappy to hear this. It was much better to have server/data centers in Australia beyond the clutches of a corrupt US deep state and judicial system (like Brazil's) who can threaten tech companies (even those who might not otherwise want to comply). I have been a fastmail user for over 20 years, but it may be time for a change.

In the past they claimed that since they don't operate any communications services in Australia they are not subject to laws that regulate communications in Australia. Their servers and customers data were kept out of Australia and encrypted, and the encryption keys were in Australia. I guess this changed since they acquired PObox and operated from a second location in Philadelphia (or earlier when they were owned by Opera).

IMHO you online data is not protected by the location of the data centers you use if the state wants to get at it. By the nature of the Internet your data travels all over the world and there are many points where it can be intercepted. In any case, if that is a worry of yours you shouldn't be using the Internet.
