I have paid until early 2014... will I get my money back?

And for sure, if Fastmail moves to Facebook I quite the service too.

I don't think you will ever get your money back.....I have been with them 10 years and I have never heard of anyone getting a refund.

If they continue to provide the service you purchased, why would they give you your money back?

Only 35% of those polled trust Facebook !!!

The title really says it all:-

Only 35% of those polled trust Facebook

A YouGov survey of 1,640 adults on 24th & 25th May revealed that 35% trusted Facebook, 9% didn't know & a massive 56% didn't trust Facebook.

Google faired rather worse in the same survey with 23% trusting them, 9% didn't know a 68% didn't trust Google.

Source - Sunday Times 27th May 2012 - Page 14.

We should not overlook Mark Zuckerberg's often reported comments on January 9, 2010 that the age of privacy is over. Danah Boyd a Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research commented on this statement, and I can't better what she said here:-

Because you are not using it any more, through no fault of your own?

Take-over of Opera by???

I've been reading some very worrying news lately in which Opera is intending to be part of a larger Public company. One of those companies that is mentioned is... Facebook. One of my prime reasons for sticking to fastmail has been its independence from companies like Google, MS etc.. Facebook, is in my view the worst of the bunch.

It would really interest me, how the fastmail service is going to make sure that its services remain separate from services offered by who-ever becomes the new boss. And... what the take of other users is on a possible take-over by Facebook should such become reality.

regards,

Is there anything the users can do to make sure our precious FastMail doesn't get muddied by Facebook? I'm sure the majority of paying FastMail users are very concerned by this revelation.

I love FastMail. I've used it for close to 10 years and I can't imagine switching. If Facebook becomes the parent company of FastMail I will leave.

I agree, but it's a very big IF...
I fear that I won't get the service(s) I paid for and won't get my money back either
I paid for Fastmail (5 years) long before it was sold to Opera - not to mention FB
and I am very frustrated as there seems nothing I can do...

Hmm... Here's a happy thought. Buy Facebook stock and you could also own a piece of fastmail!

Maybe if enough fastmail users bought stock, we could determin its fate..

Oh wait, Zuckerberg still own 57% even after the IPO...

I wouldn't get yourself too upset yet, nothing has even been announced.

If facebook cancels the service, I imagine they would be required to provide a refund.

My beef is letting Zuck anywhere near my data. He's admitted to hacking into other peoples accounts. In my opinion, he is in this for himself.

My advice? Cut your losses and protect your data.
