Fastmail: We're pleased to introduce our partner, Vivaldi

From the Fastmail Blog:

Our partner, Vivaldi, has a browser that is powerful, flexible, serious about privacy — and now supports email built into your browser.

For almost a year now I've been using an email client and only using the Fastmail web UI for account stuff. I just might try this out.

I just installed the new Vivaldi and set it up with one of my Fastmail accounts. You will need to create an application password for Vivaldi by logging into your Fastmail account and going to Settings>Password & Security>App Passwords. The default setup seems to be blocking all images.

About our partnership

Vivaldi and Fastmail are driven by similar values
I'm wondering what this partnership actually comprises?

Tried Vivaldi browser yesterday but it seems their previous problems regarding high CPU usage are still apparent (on a Mac).

I thought I should give Vivaldi a go and it has a few nice features.

I'm not getting on well with email. There doesn't seem to be a way to change identity. Can anyone help?

I couldn't find anything, going into settings then searching for "identities" shows no results.

I suppose you can edit an existing account with the identity you want to send with.

Yesterday I actually created a Vivaldi username and therefore created a Vivaldi email account apparently, and I still can't figure out what Vivaldi Mail is. The webmail interface is some version of Roundcube, so nothing special there. Not sure if there is more than a webmail interface that integrates with services like Fastmail, or is there an a full-fledged email service hiding there somewhere? If I am understanding it correctly, the webmail I now have with my Vivaldi username is not the new, improved Vivaldi Mail Beta which you have to activate from the browser settings. I have not installed the browser because I use a Chromebook mostly as my personal PC. Can someone confirm what Vivaldi Mail Beta is? Not impressed at all with the obscurity and poor explanation of just about everything on the the Vivaldi website. https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-4-0/

You don't have to create a Vivaldi username in order to use the Mail option in the browser.

In the browser, if you click on the envelope (left-hand column) another column should open up (Mail beta) where you can add one of your own mail accounts.

So it's just a webmail interface? What's the collaboration with Fastmail do?

I've asked that in post #4.

All I can see so far is that Fastmail have advised of a partnership with Vivaldi, and Vivaldi are recommending Fastmail to anyone seeking a new e-mail account:

Thanks, FredOnline. I managed to do so but I'm really not sure Vivaldi offers much extra.. Having webmail as a pinned tab on Firefox works much more smoothly for me.

A database of all your messages, labels, filters, searches is maintained by Vivaldi and the bedrock of our powerful email client. Mail from all of your accounts is indexed, so it’s searchable offline.
That could be useful if you don't already have a local mail client.

Vivaldi.net is an email service.
Vivaldi mail is an email client integrated in the Vivaldi browser.
