That is great Paul Franklin on the steel guitar. One of the best! He was born one day after I was.

As a metal fan, I am curious: would you say that Black Sabbath with other singers than Ozzy is better (some people rate the Ronnie James Dio era very highly, and it is indeed hard to argue that Dio is a better singer than Ozzy), or do you think Sabbath just needs to have Ozzy in it in order for it to be Black Sabbath?

I have met Black Sabbath fans from both sides, some prefering the 80s output of the band, and some saying only the original Sabbath (with Ozzy) can be considered true Black Sabbath.

Personally, I must admit I have put more energy and time in discovering the discography with Ozzy than in discovering the other records. I got to discover Black Sabbath with Ozzy, and for me it is hard to imagine a band replacing singers (only a few bands got away with it, such as Genesis, and even then they sounded totally different when Phil Collins took over vocal duties). So to me, even though I admit it is out of habit, Ozzy is an essential part of the Black Sabbath line-up. He isn't the greatest singer, but his voice does fit songs like "Paranoid", "Iron man", "Sabbath bloody Sabbath" etc. His voice just suits those songs, I doubt another singer could do it better, even if that singer has a better vocal reach.

Likewise, I never got too much into Ozzy's solo records. Ozzy and Black Sabbath sort of belong together in my opinion, but again, it's a habit probably.

I'm listening to Israeli singer Aviv Geffen, "Achshav me'unan" (translates as "It's cloudy now")
אביב גפן - עכשיו מעונן

A question for Hebrew speakers (there's a few on this forum... I studied Hebrew but my level is intermediate rather than advanced): the last part of the song contains the line "anachnu dor metzuyan" which literally translates as "we are an armed generation". That line sounds a bit odd. Can "metzuyan" mean anything else (even if in slang)? It just sounds odd because there are no references to weapons or anything like that in the rest of the lyrics.

If the translation would be too explicit for the forum, PM it to me. Just trying to fully understand the song.

Actually the word in the Hebrew lyrics is "mezuyan" which is (in its slang interpretation) explicit and not forum appropriate, so I will not translate it here, and just say that it is the passive form of a well known four letter word in English. So what he sings is "we're a ####ed up generation". But there's a word play here, since the word "metzuyan" ("מצוין") you mention, sounding almost the same, means "excellent", so you can also hear "we're an excellent generation" (making it quite difficult for someone to translate this song). The non-slang meaning of the word really means "armed", and the slang meaning is derived from something that every man is armed with. The word is quite rarely used in the media nowadays because of the connotations of its slang use. It was used more in the distant past (fifty years and more) and some things that were written in the media and public documents back then sound very funny today.
