Ham Radio

My Father was a Ham Radio opperator, his hobby was sending and recieving messages via morse code to people on the other side of the World just to say Hello and he was content with that. Sometimes contacts would send him a postcard to confirm the contact.
My how things have changed, I am old myself now and have trouble keeping up with all the changes.

I have been an Amateur Radio operator for 55 years. My most favorite mode is CW (Morse Code).

Funny you should mention it.

I have just been thinking about ham radios, apropos of Ukrainians saying they have no access to news given that so much of their internet infrastructure has been destroyed.

Hobby

Ham Radio was his all consuming hobby, us three boys never saw him or heard much from him. He would finish work have his dinner and go straight to his shed in the garden and we would not see him again till bedtime. Same at the weekends all his time spent in the Radio Shack. He learned morse in the RAF flying Lancasters as Radio Opperator.

My dad was not a Ham Radio operator, but he had to learn basic Morse Code because he was a US Army Air Corps B-17 pilot during WW2 after D-Day. He was stationed at Knettishall.

Cannot say much about Knetishall but footloose I wandered in parts of East Anglia where Knetishall is and there are Air Bases abandoned after the War with posters on the walls and Mess tables left in open empty hangers just as they were in 1945.

I really don't dare look at too many war posters in East Anglia. It's haunting.

Isnt it interesting how most people can SEND much faster than receiving!!

Ya dont have to think about it when your sending..... I can probably zip along at 10-15 wpm but receiving I can only handle 5 or less!!!!!

The posting of morse code is the perfect cover for the adding of spam links, post #10 is a perfect example.
