How do I ask for help?

I'm new to this forum - as will become very clear ....
I have found it very hard to get to where I am offered 'post a new thread'. The start-up screens really hide this very well - unless you already know the answer. The help pages tell you lots about complicated aspects of the forum and say nothing about actually posting something. I suspect I will have great difficulty getting back to this page, so a summary of how to post would be appreciated. Please word it as if to a beginner - don't assume I know anything except a reasonable graps of the English language - and how to log onto the Email Discussions page. In particular I'm unfamiliar with the website's menu structure and if you point me to a function which isn't actually on the home page I won't know where to find it - unless you tell me.

What I really wanted to ask was 'how can I totally disable the spam filter function on my GMX email account?'. I don't want to change the rules; I don't want to mess about with the spam filter report. I don't want to change the status of certain correspondents. I don't want to add known or unknown names to my blacklist or whitelist. I don't want to change the status of as-yet-unknown correspondents. I DO want to disable the spam filter altogether. I appreciate that I will then be sent (to my POP account) lots of spam. That's my choice; what isn't easy to choose is how to put it into effect.

1. Click on the thread you want to post in (this one is "Email Help Needed!")
2. Find a big blue button on the left which says "New Thread" and click it.

... but my real question was ..

Thanks for this beginners guide to EmailDiscussions.

I registered with the forum because I really wanted to know how to disable entirely the spam filter operated by GMX mail. I read my emails via POP and don't really want to log in to the GMX server to look at the spam folder. It's much easier actually to receive the spam email in my local Inbox and throw it away. But I cannot find how to disable the filter. So now I receive a spam report in my POP inbox; I read that then I have to log into GMX webmail, look in the spam folder and - probably - throw the item away. SO MUCH QUICKER to have it in my POP inbox in the first place.

But I can't turn off the spam filter ...

I dunno if you can.. Thier spam filter is GLOBAL meaning it protects thier whole user base from it.....

Why would you want spam coming to your inbox anyway???

I want to see my spam emails because ..

Until I've read them I don't know if they are spam. The last 3 that GMX have moved to spam have been legitimate emails.

If they come to my inbox I can easily read them all - from various different accounts - all present in my inbox.
If they stay on the GMX server, I have to run my browser, call up the GMX site, log into each account separately, look at the emails, decide they're not spam. Then log into my next GMX account and repeat the process. Then go back to my POP client on my PC and collect the not-now-spam emails downloaded from the GMX server; then I can deal with them as required.
MUCH quicker not to classify them as spam in the first place.

I can understand your dilemma. I use POP3 for all of my accounts in my email client. I also have a GMX account (gmx.com). They just recently enabled spam filtering. Here is the text of an email I received on May 14, 2024 subject "Spam protection reactivation"

Quote:
As we recently informed you, GMX has removed the option for
manually deactivating the spam filter from the user settings. This
action was taken to lower the security risk caused by suspicious
emails being delivered to your inbox rather than your Spam folder.

If you would like to ensure that emails from trusted senders are
not mistakenly identified as spam, we recommend saving these email
addresses to your GMX Contacts. If you?d like instructions, please
see ?Adding a Contact?.
https://support.gmx.com/contacts/adding/add.html

Alternatively, you can add trusted senders to your allowlist. If
you?d like help with this, please see ?Managing the Allowlist?.
https://support.gmx.com/email/spam-a...st-manage.html

Thank you for your understanding and for joining our efforts to
reduce inbox spam.

Best regards,
Your GMX Team
Fortunately for me this account is a low usage account.

I don't use contacts or white list. I prefer to have those contacts in my client not on the provider.

I have several other accounts from other providers. My solution, while not ideal, works. What is that solution? I installed the GMX App on my cell phone. This allows me to check for messages in spam. I do this with other providers too, such Yahoo, Outlook, Gmail, etc. It's a bit of a pain, but I doesn't take to long. I use these apps to check for messages in spam prior to using my client to download messages. The worst offender is Yahoo.

I probably could use an app such as K9 or FairEmail to do it all with one app but for now I am good with what I am using now.

At least I know now

Thanks for this information. At the 5th request the GMX support team have at last answered my question 'how can I totally disable the spam filtering' by saying 'you cant'. It's a shame they couldn't have said that in the first (second, third, etc.) place.

It so annoys me when suppliers think they understand my situation better than I do.

You can ask them how to access your spam folder using POP3.
Some providers allow access to individual folders using POP3 (configured as accessing separate accounts). If it's possible, then you can download all the spam folders to your email client and deal with it there.

Imagine that the postal service, as a non optional courtesy to customers, would have your postman deliver your mail to your mailbox, except that some of the letters sent to you that the postman thinks are undesirable he will throw to your trash can instead of your mailbox. Then you can dig every day in your trash to check whether by mistake some important letter was thrown to the trash...

Ya thats a good comparison.... They shouldnt do that.......... Its proven it doesnt work!!

Legit emails are being flagged as spam........ They should leave it up to the account owner...
