What do you do with unwanted email?
Not posting as a moderator.
Despite my reasonably long involvement with the forum, this is the first poll I have ever posted. I just want to talk generally here, not get action taken with specific spam as that would be against the forum rules. I just want an idea of how people generally treat unwanted mail eg do you try to report it or do you let it come and just delete it manually and so on. Thanks, Jeff |

I would report it if the mail comes from a local or well known source.

I use MailWasher, so I bounce anything that I don't want.

Delete without reading, automatically if possible, and greylisting on one disposable address I used twice and don't yet want to delete.
I didn't vote. |

I'm another one that just deletes it after checking just the subject.

I didn't respond to the poll, since no one answer applies. I try to automatically block or divert as much spam as possible, through the use of bluebottle with some of my most heavily-spammed but otherwise little-used accounts, in somewhat complex combination with a number of other means, which together insulate me from ever seeing most of it.
Of those relative few which actually make in into my inbox, I report as many as I have time for to spamcop, assuming that the perpetrators of these messages which were able to elude my dragnet are potentially clever enough to be dangerous and therefore warrant "special treatment". |

When using either Fastmail or Gmail I click on Report Spam. That's a very convenient feature. Before that was available I just deleted it.

Between fastmail's implementaion of spamassasin and thunderbird's baysean filter, very little spam makes it to my inbox. If I find any there, I mark it as junk to train thunderbird and then I trash it.

If it's in my Inbox and the feature is available, I report it as spam which then gets deleted from the Trash or Junk folder.
If it's already in the Spam/Junk/Bulk folder, I review the subject and sender text only and look for known, acceptable senders. If there aren't any valid senders, then the folder is emptied. In the case of Hotmail, anything going into Junk is automatically deleted from the account. |
