Yesterday I watched the new movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, which included the 1968 original recording by Richard Harris of the long song “MacArthur Park”. I was in middle school when this song was released, and it played often on radio stations at that time. Anyone who remembers the original version of that song is probably well over 60 years old now. Donna Summer recorded a disco version a decade later, which is also referenced in the film.
Some people think that “MacArthur Park” is the worst song of all time. It is a very weird song, and fits well into Tim Burton’s crazy Beetlejuice world. And yes, in the film someone did leave the cake out in the rain! |

Chris Brokaw - Incredible Love
I bought the CD some time ago, but I've only just got round to playing it. Seems pretty good so far. |

Martin Jarvis reading the full, unabridged, Three Men In a Boat
Jerome K Jerome's comic novel from 1900 is a hugely comforting refuge from a modern world gone mad. And Martin Jarvis' rendering of it on these CDs is pure joy. |
