Gmail from:XXX. bug

Given the (albeit incomplete) docs here:

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7190
> Search operator
> from:

> Description
> Find emails sent from a specific person.

> Example
> from:me
> from:amy@example.com

the term:

from:xxx.

(note the dot) should not match:

xxx@gmail.com

It does!

Interesting.
Searching for from:john.smith also returns email from johnsmith@ (no dot).

I wonder if this has something to do with being able to put the dot anywhere to the left of the @ in a GMail address.
Messages sent to john.smith@gmail.com and johnsmith@gmail.com both go to the same GMail mailbox.

The search from:joh.nsmith doesn't return anything, so the dot is not a wildcard.

Yowch. Same here. Apparently search ignores dot in addresses!

I hope not, because this affects non-Gmail addresses too.

This is a serious failure w.r.t. docs "Find emails sent from a specific person."
