[OT] university naming

Sorry this is not related to email directly.

About university in a city, why some names are like "university of washington", and others are like "boston university"?

What I think is that the naming of local universities should have a unified format.

And I noticed that not all university domains are ending with "edu.xx" or "ac.xx".

For example. universities in canada have this form of domain: utoronto.ca
germany universities have this form of domain: uni-hamburg.de

Though most universities around the world have a edu/ac domain, like cornell.edu or cam.ac.uk etc.

Thank you for clarifying it.

English is a very flexible language. Both ways are equally acceptable and a matter of choice.

I think that discussion belongs in the Off-Topic Lounge. This is the Email Comments, Questions, and Miscellanous subforum, but the topic has nothing to do with email.

I don?t understand why you are so bothered about how certain organizations (such as universities) are named. I live in the US in a suburb of Dallas, TX.
  • The University of Texas at Dallas campus is not located in Dallas, but in the city of Richardson, a suburb of Dallas.
  • The North Lake campus of Dallas College is in Irving, over 5 miles from the North Lake lake, which is in Dallas but surrounded by two other cities..
  • The University of Dallas (a private university) is located in the city of Irving.

.
Some national TLDs went with a flat namespace and others hierarchical.
