*must* get device email from server ASAP...
Mobile is iPhone 4s, ios7 (is old but...)
My domain is GoDaddy.com hosted - (probably my first mistake) I need to get emails from a service very fast since delays = lost money. Presently xxMin delays present in receipt - some are over 45mins etc. iPhone only allows setting 1min minimum server polling window. Now either iPhone and/or GoDaddy is slow. Either way I'm stuck! Is there software I can use that polls email server at 'user specified' time intervals? I want to leave GoDaddy as at least this is [potentially] one issue sorted. That means finding another UK based email service and I still need to have method of getting emails immediately after server gets them... Ok... I'm going around in circles and at wits end AND loosing money each day... Help Please |

Welcome to the EMD Forums!
I recommend switching to a real email provider, such as FastMail (which has a subforum here at EMD). FastMail has a free iOS app which provides instant (within a few seconds) notification and visibility of new messages. You can also get instant notification and visibility using a PC with a browser (web-based mail). I also have an iPhone 4s and iPad 3 and they both work great with the FastMail iOS app. FastMail can host your DNS domain records (optionally) and host your own domain email. Bill |

Bear in mind that
(a) there is no guaranteed delivery time of email messages (b) the delay may be due to the sender and not the receiver (Godaddy or Fastmail). All in all, even with the fastest iOS application, polling the server every microsecond, there is no certainty of instantaneous delivery. |

You need to use a mail app that does push, not poll. I think iOS has push for Exchange accounts (Android does).

What ver iOS you use? I ask as on my 4s it is iOS 7.1.2 (11D257) My issue here is not many apps will install - all want v8 and above oops - "This application requires iOS 8.0 or later." Only settings update is to 9.3.5 and I'll never do that... Have read pro/con on iOS 8 and if it did brick 4s, how do I get back to 7.1.2 - oh merde Last edited by Timmeh : 9 Oct 2016 at 06:08 PM. Took the plunge and installed. Weird thing was it took at least 2 days b4 was able to work like a real system. Not know why, but I'd removed so much that phone was really only ok for browsing/email but it would not work good at all. Strange, but just forgot about it for a while as had enough agro!
Then, one morning, the damn thing worked ok - bit slow but it worked... tbh tho, by then had moved onto moto g4 + 32gb sanDisk microSD set to internal memory mode. Device very low cost but as gen rule, most could not fault the device. Anyway, I'm amazed at having a 5.5in hd screen etc. Changed one devil for another perhaps as Google vs Apple etc. However, it has a very pure Marshmellow 6.01 install without fluff and just works. I'm off to get Fastmail (I think!) - during the 'process' I came across pushover.net and very interesting indeed... |
