I'm sorry but I also have no idea what to choose. I don't understand what "-the caché's of google search" has to do with gmail going public?

You could edit it maybe using less ambigious wording?
Or using another twist on it? ok? I go to bed now. My eyes are sandy indeed. Trew |

wel google caché is a sort of public item that saves the internet pages. so if you search with google and the internetpage that you like isin't anymore one the net then you can choose (click on) google caché and you can view the page from the google database. but thousends of sites are saved there. so it has a big capacitie and if you delete al of that pages you have certenly 1.000.000 GB extra space. that are 1.000.000 Gmail adresses so if they delete that, they could go public. so would you sure choose to delete google caché and gmail goes public ore google caché ceeps existing and gmail doesn't go public
ore you can choose for as gmail member 1 but as not gmail member for 2 ore as gmail member for 2 and as not gmail member for 1 in case you don't get it yet send a mail to me () and I will ask it to kalashnikov or someone else ho speaks dutch couse I am dutch to and maybe he can translate it matzo Last edited by matzo : 20 Sep 2009 at 11:09 PM. |

I think he asks whether you prefer that Google delete their Web cache database and use the extra HD space to offer Gmail to the public...what would you choose if you had a Gmail account and what would you choose if you didn't.
i.e., the options are: 1. Delete the Web cache database and offer Gmail to the public. 2. Keep the cache and continue offering invitations. 3. I'd choose two as a Gmail user, and one not as a Gmail user. 4. I'd choose one as a Gmail user, and two not as a Gmail user. |

I certainly am in favour of Gmail going public, as I think then the forum can get back to being its normal self, instead of being the place where people join for an invite and never post afterwards --I know that some people have stayed on and that is wonderful, I am referring to those that only joined for the invites and never post afterwards only. It is great having new members contributing and needing help.
It is the search cache part that I am confused about, I like the Google search engine, ans use it almost daily, so I certainly don't want it to be affected. So, bearing this is mind, I still did not vote. Susan. |

I would be happy for Gmail to go public and get it over with, but I don't think losing the google seach feature should be affected, as Sherry has mentionned above also. Please expand on this further. Susan. |

That's not what he meant.
He assumes that before Gmail goes public, Google will need more disk space than they currently have available to offer to new subscribers. The question is whether you prefer that Gmail delete their Web cache and use the freed disk space to make Gmail open to the public now - or keep the Web cache and continue offering invites. In my opinion, since Gmail is still in beta status, they may be able to offer it to the public any time soon (if ever ) - the problem is not disk space (not to mention that all users who are likely to use a large part of their quotas have probably found invites already). |

I fail to see why the web cache would be a problem for Gmail. The web cache takes up quite a bit of space, yes. But for some reason I don't think that they both reside on the same machines. Nor do I think something as mundane as adding more servers would be a showstopper for Google. These guys have more storage then can be imagined...

can I say that the result of this poll is that the most don't think that they need the extra space. then please post a thread with yes and then we can let rest this poll
otherwise i'l retreat my poll (if I could) atleast I think that it's true that they have enough of space yes thanks for your opinions |

I couldn't vote in the poll as I don't think they need to delete the cache (which is one of the things that makes Google's search stand out) and I would like to see it go public.
