I'm sure we'll get a full explanation as soon as they're finished sorting things out and cleaning up the mess. |

Well, I have to admit one thing: Fastmail is very reliable.
I'm a customer of Fastmail since the 26th June 2002 (i'm getting old ) and I've been worried about a fastmail failure only one time. it was a power failure in NY1 and the spare generator did not start. I do not remember how long was the fastmail service down. |

Whew
Glad it's back. I do depend heavily on FastMail, as I consider it the best. Thankful that it was a short outage.

I have also been a fastmail user since 2002. They are insanely reliable, and they tend to be very communicative when there is a problem (even down to giving us detailed technical descriptions).

I know at least one message was returned-to-sender during the outage (with the error message: "Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=lmtp3.internal type=A: Host not found"). I doubt there's any way of knowing if other messages were rejected.

At a quick glance, it looks like alias-based forwarding may still have been working. The bounced message I mentioned previously showed up normally at my gmail account shortly after the outage began (5:03PM EDT). It looks like the next message to arrive at gmail was at 6PM, and a bunch of notifications from these forums all arrived at 6:30PM.

Compared to 2liamtsaf and alka, I have had a different experience. Some of you may not remember or were not affected -- but there was a very long-lasting Fastmail outage a few years ago that I refer to as the infamous server 4 outage. Many of us were without e-mail service for several days. At the time, I was using FastMail for my business. However, my understanding is that after that server 4 outage Fastmail improved its service making its redundancy and replication deeper to hopefully prevent long-lasting, hard outages like that.
