I signed up and received the verify e-mail, and clicked on the link as requested.

Changed a few settings, might work better now for unverified users

I've never used Discord; a quick explore of the website rather implied it supports voice discussions ... which will be pointless because hardly any of us are online, let alone awake - or able to discuss stuff - at the same times of day. |

There appears to be a long running problem with Discord, just do a Google:

Hi trussrod,
What are some of the benefits that you had in mind? I see that Xenforo has a chat option. My personal preference would be that public chats are eventually logged into a "chat forum" as regular threads/posts. Unfortunately that's not supported, so the content might be hard for others to reference in the future. What does the chat provide that's better or different use case than forum posts? |

As for direct advantages compared to the forum: if you want to easily retrieve discussions on a certain subject or you want a different discussion per topic, then there are no such advantages.
Discord, like Skype or Zoom, is good for just chatting or group meetings, be it formal meetings or just informal chatting and getting to know the other people in the chat room. I would say that, regardless of advantages or lack thereof, the initiative is fine. The OP created the chat room with best intentions, and took an initiative with the aim to offer people a place to talk. Regardless if you intend to use that service or not, I'd say we should never be criticizing someone showing goodwill. |

As you said, Discord (or any other chat service) is good for chatting and getting to know people. I think the advantage that Discord has over a forum is that it is more immediate. You can see who is online and chat in real-time, making it easier to have a conversation.

No interest either. If you want to talk together, there’s group calls available from apps such as WhatsApp.
