Announce when they'll announce the planned increase. In other words, they're promising to promise something with no timeframe. Just the behaviour I've come to expect.
I'm sending out my email to my friends with hotmail.

Are you sure they're not simply going to announce when they're going to make the announcement of when they'll announce the increase?

Microsoft: famous for their monopolistic tendencies and their vaporware, among other things.

As I said in another thread, I just talked to a MSN France representaive on the phone and he told me that the premium accounts, that is, MSN Hotmail Extra storage, MSN Premium and MSN Plus will be upgraded this summer whereas the basic free accounts won't be upgraded until this fall...Now i can't guarantee that he actually knows more than I do about MSN Hotmail news coming from the USA...

Outlook Express: OE for WinXP is being updated in the next month or so with SP2. The main new feature is a privacy bar like OL2003, which won't automatically download images.

Seasons: Don't let astronomers or sports fans fool you - summer starts memorial day, fall starts labor day, winter starts the day after thanksgiving, and spring starts when the groundhog says so.

Do you happen to know if the SP2 will be an IE or just WXP update. If IE, it will also do OE with other OS's

It is WinXP SP2 (specifically for that OS) unfortunately. M$ has not budged in the selectivity of the continued development of their product lines (where they no longer feel the need to compete I guess).

The SP2 itself is already subject to some controversy though...

Thanks bitequator. That's a shame but then, you never know. IE is still very popular so hopefully, they might do something (for the sake of security).

Since IE and OE are part of the OS, having a SP2 for WinXP would surely include patches for IE and OE.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. As snsh and others have mentioned, some of the biggest enhancements for the WinXP SP2 are relating to both IE (ex. built-in popup blocker) and OE (ex. blocking remote HTML fetching). Just not available as stand-alone patches for users of other OSes, at least this was the situation before.

I believe there have been quite a few past threads on this by other people too, such as:

Hotmail was my first e-mail address. As far as I can remember
90% of the received e-mails were SPAM. In does days the
spam filter was too poor to satisfy me. I was using a 56K
dial-up modem so the interface with all its advertisements
was a nightmare

I believe that the London Weather Centre's official stance, when asked for one, was that "it's winter when it gets really cold, it's spring when it starts getting warmer, it's summer when it's hot, and it's autumn when it gets cooler again".

In Britain at least, the seasons are approximately:  spring from mid-March to mid-May, summer from mid-May to mid-September, autumn from mid-September to mid-November, and winter from mid-November to mid-March.  They vary year by year, however; in 1981, winter lasted until the end of April and came down again in mid-October.  (On December 21st of that year, the London Evening Standard had one of the stupidest headlines I've ever seen, alleging that it was "the first day of winter" when in fact it was more like the sixty-first.)

I just can't help but keep thinking the title of this thread is sarcasm when I see it in the thread list! Hotmail is the worst I've ever seen!
